Showing Up Boldly: Moving Waters Inaugural Town Hall

On July 22, 2025, we hosted our first-ever virtual Town Hall, and we’re still feeling the momentum.

This was more than just a virtual meeting; it was a real and heartfelt conversation among people who care deeply about Houston’s unhoused community. We were joined by fellow service providers, policy advocates, and community leaders to discuss openly what’s working, what’s not, and how we can continue to show up boldly, compassionately, and effectively in today’s shifting political climate.

Key Takeaways:

●  Consistency builds trust. Show up where you know you can and continue to do so with compassion and understanding.

●  Dream BIG but start realistically. Focus on one thing you can do well—then build the big ideas up from there.

●  Get to know your local representatives. Invite them to come. Let them see the impact your organization is creating up close.

●  Don’t be afraid to ask. Partners, volunteers, donors, you are not alone, and someone may be able to meet the needs you are seeking to be met.

●  Share the real stories. Don’t wait for a “perfect” moment. Impact is often quiet and personal—small wins can quickly snowball into big wins.

What’s Next?

This event reminded us that, while the landscape may be shifting, our commitment remains unchanged. We’re here for the long haul—serving with dignity, collaborating with purpose, and doing what it takes to keep our neighbors healthy, seen, and supported.

To everyone who attended and to our incredible panelists: thank you.

To those who couldn’t make it: we missed you, and we hope you’ll join the next one.

Let’s keep showing up, Houston!
